Pre Test 1 – Risk Management for the Health Care Assistant and for the Client

Risk management is a part of the administration department and does not involve the nursing assistant.

Risk management involves creating and putting in place methods to prevent client injury, minimize financial loss and preserve the agency’s assets.

A common problem brought to the risk management team is a client’s fall.

If you observe signs of potential violent behavior in a client or visitor, you should get help right away.

You do not need to use personal protective equipment when you are working around hazardous materials. Using good
handwashing will be enough to protect you.

As a nursing assistant, you do not give clients’ injections, so you do not need to worry about needles and needlesticks.

It is acceptable to discuss your clients outside your facility, because nobody really knows who you are or where you might
work.

If you attend the yearly classes on back safety, you will not be at risk for a back injury.

The SIX (6) steps to the risk management process are: identify risks, evaluate the problem, examine solutions, select the best
solution, put it to work, then evaluate the results.

Getting involved with the risk management team shows that you care about your job, your clients, your agency, your co-workers and yourself.
